The Oxford Canal is a scenic 78-mile waterway that passes through the countryside of Oxfordshire and the city of Oxford itself. It is a tranquil haven for wildlife that offers a perfect place for outdoor activities including walking, cycling and fishing.

The Canal & River Trust suggest five things you can do on the Oxford Canal:

1. Discover the turnover bridge designed so that horses didn’t have to be unhitched when the towpath changed sides.

2. Spot the narrowboats that still sell coal and logs to river and canalside households.

3. Look for the old Oxford boatyard (now closed) where Lyra meets the ‘gyptians’, in the novel The Northern Lights by Philip Pullman

4. Hire a bike in town and cycle up the towpath.

5. Follow the canal round to the Thames Path. About a mile further south is Christ Church Meadows, one of the most famous river landscapes in the world.

Spending time in green space and bringing nature into your everyday life can benefit both your mental and physical wellbeing. So if you’d like to live in a home with easy access to the hidden world of the Oxford Canal, then why not consider Jericho?
